UFC-160 Heavyweight Title Fight Cain Velasquez vs Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva

Last May Cain Velasquez andAntonio “Bigfoot” Silva were the co main event in a non title fight that ended in the first round , after Velasquez opened up Silva with an elbow across the bridge of his nose.

Velasquez within seconds of the first round had taken Silva down, and started landing elbow after elbow.

This was probably the bloodiest, brutal match i had ever witness in any MMA event. The octagon mat was covered in blood as well as both fighters.

Midway through the first round the referee had stop the fight and a Dr had to evaluate the open wound to Silva’s face. After a few minutes, Silva was cleared to resume fighting.

I posted the following on my facebook page, and my opinion is still the same. This fight should have been stopped. If you haven’t seen that fight check it out on youtube. During the fight Cain Velasquez paused several times and looked towards the ref and officials.

Silva was unable to get back on his feet, and used his legs to try and keep Velasquez off him. Before the end of round one the fight was finally stopped by the referee, and Velasquez declared winner by TKO

Fast Forward to December 2012

Velasquez vs dos Santos for the UFC Heavyweight Title. dos Santos gave his heart all five rounds, but was no match for Velasquez, who by unanimous decision won his belt back from the man who took it previously.

Velasquez has the best cardio in MMA, he can go the distance, throw bombs, and effective in his take downs. All one has to do if look at Brock Lesner and Junior dos Santos faces after fighting Velasquez to see the man is Pit Bull.

Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva i only seen two of his matches, this one and his fight against Alistair Overeem in December.

This fight was personal for Silva as it was reported throughout MMA Media that Overeem has talked just a bit too much trash. All fighters talk some smack, but when you make personal comments on family or your team of trainers, its personal.

Well this fight ended in the second round as Silva just opened up on Overeem with multiple combos, and several upper cuts to Overeem. These blows were thrown fast. I haven’t seen a fighter throw this fast since Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali. The fight ended with Overeem knocked out while standing against the cage.

So who will walk away with the UFC Heavyweight Champion of the World?

I have loads of love and respect for my favorite fighter Cain Velasquez. But after seeing Silva fight and throw those incredible combos, i have respect for the man.

This will be a fight there is no doubt about it, but Cain Velasquez will retain his title tonight.

    • Haha, well i grew up around a boxing ring! 🙂 my grandpa fought in golden gloves and my dad fought in middleweight division but nothing huge. The did volunteer and trained at a gym in the south bay area. I spent my first 12 years of life living in South Central Los Angeles.
