Household Gadgets From The Past 9/21/2013-Winner

The answer and winner of the Kitchen Gadget posted on 9/21 is Robert Johnson from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. With only a partial picture posted Robert guessed a “popcorn popper” which is correct.

In case some of you did not know Robert is a skilled wood craftsman who creates some of the coolest exotic wood art I have ever seen. These are just a small sampling of Robert’s work.

If you are interested in having custom wood art made for you, Robert can be reached via his Facebook page at

The exact name is a “Whirly Pop Popcorn Kettle” I remember as a child my grandfather making my sisters and i popcorn the old fashion way.

Not that i am totally against microwave popcorn, but let’s Face it, sometimes the best thing about going out to a movie is the popcorn, the aroma and sight of those big plump kernels that always seem to call your name out no matter how hard you try to ignore the calling of concession stands.

So when I found my latest kitchen gadget at our local goodwill Store, i bout fell over with excitement. The best part is Damien likes to turn the crank as the popcorn is starting to pop. if you see one grab it and have the kids participate, these are so much fun to have!!!

About Dish With Clarissa

Clarissa Ellis grew up learning to cook with her mom. In a time where traditional home-cooked food was going out of style, Clarissa learned to love and make those simple 'comfort foods' and family favorites. As she grew - and her mom got busier with long work hours, Clarissa supported her mom by taking over most of the cooking duties around the home. By the time Clarissa started high school - she had absorbed her mother's approach to traditional, homestyle Italian dishes; and thanks to So Cal's great weather year round... a love of cooking on the grill. Fast forward 30 years and Clarissa has never stopped cooking. She continued to explore food, learning more from So Cal's amazing cultural variety, trying things out on her family and her friends... and always learning. Never content to merely cook a good meal, Clarissa developed the habit of talking sharing her ideas with family, friends and coworkers. After a lifetime of learning and experimenting, Clarissa's love affair with traditional Italian cooking, and 'comfort foods' has grown into a robust, creative and cross-cultural approach to cooking that still manages to remain 'accessible' to the rest of us. Now Clarissa brings her experience and her approach online through her blog - giving all of us a chance give ourselves, our friends and our family the benefits of a lifetime of passion and joy in cooking simply great meals.

  2. Would your friend like some wood!!! We had a tree fall… not sure what kind. But it is giving us grief. The clean up part. Still don’t have my kitchen back…I’m hoping by the end of this week…but could be just a tad later. Just getting a face lift of sorts.

I remember Jiffy Pop. I’ve started this nasty bit of choking on pop corn pieces – so I don’t eat it as frequently as I used to.

  3. I am totally against microwave popcorn
